DAI Hodges has been appointed as Upton RFC's new second team captain for the new season replacing Adam Caulkin who has stood down after two successful years.

Hodges, aged 36, who has played for the club for the last six years as full back and fly half, and currently as scrum half hopes his experience will be a benefit to the players.

He said: "I am looking forward to this year's rugby with great enthusiasm. Part of my responsibility will be to encourage existing players to maximise their potential and ultimately challenge for a first team slot."

Upton rugby club has a reputation for being a friendly club with a great social atmosphere that readily encourages and welcomes new players of all abilities, with a nucleus of experienced players only too happy to pass on their knowledge of the game.

Training at the North Midland One club is held every Tuesday between 7pm and 9pm.
