WORCESTER Nomads are still hanging on to the possibility of surviving in Division One of the Worcestershire County League.

At the moment no-one in the Birmingham League and therefore all the lower leagues know how many clubs will be promoted or relegated and this situation is unlikely to change for several months.

Consequently Nomads, currently one from the bottom of their division, will be trying very hard to defeat Kington, the leaders, at Bransford tomorrow (Saturday).

The first XI fixture against Netherton followed a usual pattern with early Nomads being dismissed by outstanding seam bowling. However on this occasion there was a sting in the tail caused by opening batsman, Malcolm Jones, arriving late after preparing the Bransford ground for the second XI match in time for the curious 12.30am starting time.

Malcolm (82no) in company with Glen Collins (17no) reached 105 runs for the eighth wicket in order to provide a reasonable position for the Nomads' bowlers. Earlier a partial recovery had been staged by James Watkins (33) and Jim Sargent (20).

When Netherton batted it was only Ian Jinks with two early wickets who caused any problems and Stuart Oseland with 47 led his team to any easy six wickets victory.

The second XI, despite a superb 80 from Nick Williams, also went down to their Netherton counterparts while the thirds saved the Nomads' day with a win over Fladbury - Iain Brown and Ed Davis giving solid batting displays.

On Sunday the 1st X1 almost achieved a family team with the Rees, Watkins, Kelly and Jones families fielding nine of the team against Crowle. This fixture, arranged after a late withdrawal by Shipston on Stour, was well contested with most Nomads scoring runs.

James Kelly (18), James Watkins (27), Kieran Rees (23), Gerry Kelly (17) and Malcolm Jones (34) all found some difficulty in playing the Crowle bowlers with Millington taking 3-19 and Dave Jessop 2-31.

In reply Crowle gradually lost wickets to the pace of Richard Watkins (2-23), Kieran Rees (2-16) and Malcolm Jones (2-14) and at 116 all out finished 34 runs short of the target.
