EUROPEAN Tour professional Jeremy Robinson won the Midland PGA Match Play Championship at Staverton Park Hotel, Conference Centre and Golf Club yesterday.
He beat defending champion Robert Rock (Swingers DR) by one-hole in the 18-holes final. It was wet and windy.
This is the second time Robinson has been champion. The Vale Golf Club member also won in 1998 -- the only other previous occasion he has competed.
Earlier, in the semi-finals Robinson beat David J. Russell (Kedleston Park), the Midland PGA captain, by 2 and 1, while Rock won by a similar margin against Danny Greenwood (Forest Pines).
Robinson's final with Rock was close all the way. They turned all square and Robinson won the par five 11th to go one-up which proved crucial when the remaining holes were halved.
