THE partial closure of the Homend in Ledbury following the fire which gutted the Seven Stars pub will be lifted for the annual street fair in October.

Half of the road had been closed since the blaze which devastated the 16th Century building in July, with temporary lights to control traffic.

Clive Hall of Herefordshire Council's highways department, said this week: "The town has a fair on October 8 and 9 and whatever the state of play, within reason, we want to have both carriageways open for that. However, it will not be possible to open the footway outside the Seven Stars."

Architect Ian Stainburn, of Stainburn Taylor, said that they hoped to erect a scaffolding canopy over the site in early October.

Landlady Janet Kaye is due to appear at Worcester Crown Court on Tuesday, October 2, charged with arson with intent to endanger life.
