A COMPREHENSIVE NHS reshuffle is taking shape and the Government is launching a consultation exercise to try and gauge opinion in the West Midlands.

If the proposed reforms come into being, the 13 regional health authorities in the area will be abolished and replaced with three new strategic health authorities.

Worcestershire would be included with Herefordshire, Warwickshire and Coventry in a West Midlands South authority.

The idea is that the new authorities will delegate responsibilities for services to primary health care trusts, while taking a larger overview on the long-term strategies needed for improvement. The consultation takes place over ten weeks, finishing on November 30. Copies of the consultation document can be obtained from local health authorities or by logging on to www.doh.gov. uk/shiftingthebalance/ haconsultation.
