WITH reference to your article on tourism on the Malvern Hills on August 31, it seems to me that the board of the Malvern Hills Conservators have forgotten that they have a staff of five workmen and a foreman.
To suggest that voluntary wardens manage the Malvern Hills and commons is boarding on the ridiculous. I shudder to think what would happen if they started to use chainsaws or drive powerful tractors with implements behind. You need men with vast experience for that kind of work; you cannot run a 3,000 acre area from a computer.
I feel that the board of the Malvern Hills Conservators have still got their Victorian attitude towards the work force. I worked on the Malvern Hills for 32 years and I must say that they seem to be very neglected of late.
