A SECOND road in Malvern is being put forward as a possible 'Home Zone' in a bid to attract substantial Government funding.
Lower Road, in West Malvern, joins Duke of Edinburgh Way, in Malvern Link, as two of the three schemes being considered by Worcestershire County Council. The other is for an an estate in Droitwich.
Up to £1.5 million could be available for the three schemes, if the Government approves the bids.
Home Zones involve re-engineering streets to give people priority over cars by introducing traffic control measures and improvements to amenities and the environment, such as trees and benches.
Lower Road is a notorious 'rat run' and consultants will be talking to residents in the next few weeks to find out what they would like before formulating the bid to be submitted to the Government in October. A similar consultation was carried out in Duke of Edinburgh Way in August. A decision on whether the bids have been successful is expected early next year.
