On watching in disbelief the horror of the scene which unfolded on our screens of the terrorist attack on the twin towers of the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon, it is incomprehensible to any clear and right-thinking person what deranged minds could be responsible for such an act of barbarism.
Out of such devastation the civilised world will be changed forever. As has been said, the cowardly attack was not only an attack on America, but on the whole of the free and democratic nations of the world.
To this end it was heartening to hear, so soon after the attack, national leaders and leaders of all faiths condemning this act of the most appalling atrocity. All the peaceful and good people of America, Britain and the rest of the world will not only be seen to denounce the actions of the few who live their lives in the dark, and seek to destroy the freedom and peace which we have come to expect. But they will act as one, with help in clearing up the devastation. The high-profile condemnation, backed up with practical help in restoring the cities, will show the perpetrators of this evil that they are alone and that terrorism will not, and cannot ever, be a solution.
While a very small minority seek to destroy, and live their lives in the deepest darkness, void of any compassion and responsibility for their fellow man, good people will always seek, and will succeed, to live their lives in the fullness of the "Light of the World".
