SIR Michael Spicer had to axe plans to open a new school library in Eldersfield today (Friday) after Parliament was recalled for an emergency debate.
The debate will decide what action should be taken following Tuesday's terrorist attacks in America.
The West Worcestershire MP had intended to open a new library, entrance lobby and offices at Eldersfield Lawn CE Primary School at 3pm.
Meanwhile, the results of the Conservative leadership battle were due to be announced as the Malvern Gazette went to press yesterday. Sir Michael, as chairman of the party's 1922 backbench committee, is returning officer for the contest.
The announcement was delayed for 24 hours out of respect for victims of the devastating events in New York and Washington.
Sir Michael said: "We had a very high turnout from the electorate. It's about 80 per cent."
He said that, as referee of the contest, he was unable to say which member he had voted for although he did cast a vote.
