FOLLOWING damage to Corse Parish Council noticeboard situated in the bus shelter, Gloucester Road, the parish council are offering a reward of £50 for information leading to a successful prosecution. This was decided at a meeting of the council at Lawn Farm Meeting Room with Councillor Mrs Pat Lewis in the chair.

Although the council are most anxious for the work to proceed as soon as possible to alleviate flooding in Straight Lane it still remains a question of funding which the county council say they haven't funds for, the clerk Norman Davis is to pursue the matter.

It was reported that two of the cherry trees planted by the bus shelter have died, but one of which had been broke off. The council feel that they should be replaced as they were donated by a parishioner.

Following communications with Royal Mail the recommended postal address is Gloucester Road, Corse which includes the school and the surgery also School Crescent and Pillows Green, Corse and Blackwells End, Hartpury. Post codes remain the same.

Planning applications: Stonend Farm, substantial alterations; Grangebrook, three detached dwellings, no comment to be made. High way matters: Prince Crescent has been resurfaced and the left hand side pavement also tarmacced and much improved. The council are still concerned at the untidy state by The Pound. It has been brought to the notice of the parish council that the hedges on both sides in the narrowest part of Church Lane are badly overgrown, the clerk is to contact the owners. With the speed of traffic approaching Staunton Cross from Straight Lane it was suggested the speed limit signs should be extended further along Straight lane.

A full coach of Staunton & District Over 60's Club members enjoyed a day out at Weston Super Mare, although damp to start the day turned out fine. There was a full church at the family service at the Parish Church of St James, Staunton conducted by Canon John Evans when the baptisms of William John Saysum, son of Jane and Lloyd and Craig Bluck, son of Kim and Keith, took place and they were welcomed into the family of the church by the congregation. The lesson reader was Robert Whitestone and during the celebration of Holy Communion, the celebrant was assisted by Ursula Groves-Smith who administered the chalice. Margaret Riley was the organist and Prim Goldring and Paige Fardon took the collection.

I see that the Mowers & Growers Gardening Group of Staunton resume their meetings on Wednesday, September 26 in the lounge at Johnstone Close when Dr Keith Ferguson will talk on Unusual and Well Known Shrub and Climbers. It is nice to see the public footpath signs emerging from their covering after the foot and mouth restrictions but it is still important to follow the footpath code and read the notices.
