BROMSGROVE MP Julie Kirkbride today appeared to have missed out on a promotion to the Tory shadow cabinet.

Ms Kirkbride had been widely tipped for a big job under new party leader Iain Duncan Smith.

She had even been recommended by the Party's former Press chief, Amanda Platell.

But her name was not included on a list of 22 Shadow cabinet members which were announced by Mr Duncan Smith's aides today.

Three posts remain to be filled on Monday - Agriculture, Work and Pensions and Leader of the House.

However Tory sources suggested she was unlikely to be given one of these positions.

Ms Kirkbride said: "Iain Duncan Smith is our leader and I'm sure we'll all get behind him to ensure that the Conservative Party will be successful at the next election."

The MP, who is currently a member of the Culture Select Committee, could be handed one of the Party's many roles as a front-bench spokesman.

These posts are also expected to be announced on Monday.

Mid-Worcestershire MP Peter Luff is also expected to learn his fate next week. He is currently a Tory whip.

Mr Duncan Smith beat his rival Kenneth Clarke by 55,000 votes when the results of the gruelling contest were announced last night.

Mr Duncan Smith received 155,933 votes, or 61 per cent, with Mr Clarke getting the support of 100,864 members, or 39 per cent.
