A MALVERN woman drove her uninsured car because she was on her way to an interview for a job she desperately needed, magistrates were told.

Karina Farr told Droitwich Magistrates Court yesterday that she needed the job so badly she took her car on the road.

The H-reg Citroen was also not covered by an MoT certificate at the time of the incident on Monday, May 14.

Police stopped 30-year-old Farr around 12.45pm in Langland Avenue as she drove to an estate agents in Pershore.

"Officers asked if there was any insurance and test certificate," said Mark Soper, prosecuting.

"She said there wasn't."

Farr, of Pound Bank Road, admitted driving without insurance and a valid MoT certificate.

She told the court this was due to a lack of funds.

"I lost my job and I was going for a job interview," said Farr, who defended herself.

"It was the only way I could get there due to no public transport.

"It's not something I make a habit of but I needed to get to the interview to pay for my mortgage."

Farr told the court she was offered the job and was now in a six-month probationary period.

Magistrates fined her £120 and six penalty points for driving without insurance and fined her £30 for having no MOT.

She was also ordered to pay £35 costs.
