A TINY sports pavilion at Callow End was packed to the doors for discussion of a plan to create a special school at Dodfield Horn, Colletts Green.

Protesters unable to squeeze into the pavilion on Wednesday night stood in the rain for half-an-hour until it was agreed to defer the matter until it could be held in Powick parish hall.

Chairman John Mason explained Powick planning meetings alternated between the two venues and this one had been arranged before it was known what would be on the agenda.

Dodfield Horn had been discussed at a previous meeting attended by up to 80 protesters, when the planning committee had raised objections on grounds of road safety and inadequate sewerage.

It had been brought back for further discussion after additional information was submitted by Herefordshire education company Clifford House to support its plan to turn the residential bungalow into a school for disturbed children.

The new information included details of expected traffic movements carrying staff and pupils to and from school, based on previous experience at Clifford House.

"Clifford House is trying to reassure us that there will not be a problem with road safety. Our object is to look at it without bias and with the interests of the parishioners at heart," said Coun Mason.

It was agreed that copies of the additional information should be displayed in the village post office.

Vice-chairman Gill Hunt advised people to make their views known by writing to Malvern Hills District Council's planning department.

"I would like an adjournment because I would like the parish council to understand fully the objections of the residents, including road safety and the loss of rural amenity," added protester Beverley Bell.

It was agreed to defer discussion of the matter until Tuesday.
