TWO friends who had not seen each other over the summer were arrested after a pub crawl turned nasty.

Michael Lunn and Adam Samuel were walking home on Friday, September 8 when they became involved in an argument, Droitwich magistrates were told.

Patrolling officers spotted the pair on the corner of Tybridge Street and Hylton Road at about 12.05am.

"They saw two men shouting at each other in the middle of the road," said Susan Cliff, prosecuting yesterday.

"The officers both spoke to one defendant.

"Mr Samuel said, into the face of one officer, 'why haven't you checked him out?'

"He was told to go home. He was extremely drunk and persisted to stand in his face".

Miss Cliff told the court that officers warned Samuel he would be arrested if he continued to act in this way.

The officer arrested him and tried to take Samuel's arm, but he resisted.

"He warned CS spray would be used," added Miss Cliff.

She told the court that Lunn was "extremely drunk".

Extremely aggressive

"He became extremely aggressive, beginning to shout at both officers," she said. "Neither were prepared to listen to what they were advised.

"Lunn started to move towards Samuel and continued to shout abuse. He was then arrested."

Magistrates heard this was the first time the pair had been together since term ended at University College Worcester last June.

Twenty-three-year-old Lunn is still a student at the Henwick Grove campus and Samuel, 21, is working in the city.

"This was Lunn's first day back in Worcester," said Martha Recordon, defending.

"Mr Samuel felt he wasn't involved, he just wanted to go home. He accepts his behaviour was unacceptable. "This was a drunken night out that got out of control."

Lunn, of Rowley Hill Street, St John's, and Samuel, of Broad Street, both admitted being drunk and disorderly.

Lunn was fined £35 and ordered to pay £55 costs. Samuel was fined £60 and ordered to pay £55 costs.
