FORGET the fights over money, the children, or that dodgy relationship with the woman next door.

Even if you snuggle up at night happy as Larry, you might just want to kill your other half when the peace is broken by a deafening cruiseliner lodged in your ear.

Let's face it, snoring isn't just a niggling habit, it can be the cause of serious marriage disharmony.

Contrary to popular belief, both men and women snore, becoming worse with age, weight, and increased alcohol consumption.

It can be a social embarrassment when visiting friends or relatives, on holiday, on long-haul overnight flights, in the train, and so on.

It can cause increased sleepiness during the day - which has been linked to an increased risk of car and lorry accidents, and yet this debilitating complaint can be treated by a single laser application with a local anaesthetic, taking around 30 minutes.

Consultant surgeons at the London Laser Clinic have carried out more than 400 laser treatments with a 90 per cent success rate.

The only hitch is you might find yourself footing a bill which runs into the £1,000s with LLC surgery treatment ranging from £400 to £1,500.

However there are cheaper alternatives.

Essential oils-based Helps Stop Snoring spray, is available from Boots, Sainsbury's, Superdrug, Waitrose, Morrisons, Asda Pharmacy and Moss Chemists.

And while you are there, manufacturer Essential Health Products is searching for the nation's 12 worst snorers to take part in the first snoring farm.

Farm "guinea pigs" will put the spray, with its reported 82 per cent success rate, under rigorous testing in a three-day intensive grunt-busting secret location, complete with guards and surveillance cameras.

Graham Carr-Smith said they were hunting for the nation's worst snorers who would receive advice from medical, diet and fitness professionals.

"One of the conditions is that security staff are allowed to search 'guests' bags for contraband items such as alcohol and cigarettes, which can exacerbate snoring," he said.

"The ultimate aim is to provide as much advice and information as possible and reduce or stop their snoring altogether."

To apply for a place at the country's first snoring farm, which opens it's doors in October, call the hotline on 0121 355 2640.

Scientific evidence suggests that if snoring is of a low-pitched, rumbling nature, it comes from the soft palate area whereas if it is a high pitched, sucking sound, it is likely to come from the back of the tongue or throat itself.

Because snoring is a form of exercise for this muscular area, the sound of snoring usually worsens with time, as the palate becomes increasingly muscular and elongated.

With the introduction of National Snoring Week, which runs until Sunday, comes the UK launch of the ZX, designed to wear in the mouth at night to stop snoring and sleep apnoea.

Fitted by dentists in a 15-minute appointment in the chair, the revolutionary ZX has already more than a million users worldwide.

Unlike other more radical options, it claims to be permanently effective in virtually all cases, and involves no pain or invasive surgery.

It works by preventing the tongue and lower jaw from dropping back into the airway, which blocks the flow of air and causes the snoring sound.
