AUGUST saw a sharp dip in the number of recorded violent crime following a high profile police operation over the summer.

Operation Tango saw high visibility patrols across the town and intelligence-led policing in July and August.

As a result, 674 public order incidents were recorded in August, down from a monthly average of more than 800.

Violent crime was also down to 115 incidents from an average of 175.

Police in the Redditch and Bromsgrove division also made 180 arrests for violent crime and public disorder.

Those arrested included seven people involved in an incident at the Star and Garter pub in Crabbs Cross, reported in the Advertiser.

Another three youths, two aged 15 and one 17, also appeared in court charged with an assault in January at Redditch United Football Club.

All three were imprisoned.
