MORE than 150 golfers, from clubs as far apart as Darlington in Co. Durham and Santa Ponsa in Spain, gathered at Redditch Golf Club to compete in the Redditch Senior Open for the prestigious Eric Mutton Cup.
With autumnal weather well to the fore the beautifully manicured par 70 'Yellow Course' was playing every one of its 6116 yards.
As usual the course gave nothing away and every Stableford point was hard won.
The Eric Mutton Cup was won by Mr J. Marson of Gay Hill G.C. with 38 pts. playing of a handicap of 15.
Results:- Red H/cap category (0-17) 1-J Marson - Gay Hill 38pts; 2-A. Shand- N. Warwickshire 37pts; 3-K Davis-N. Worcestershire 36pts ; 4-R Eva-Droitwich 35pts.
Blue H/cap category (18-28) 1-A Harrison- Redditch 35pts(best back 9); 2-R Hughes-Redditch 35pts; 3-E. Morris-The Vale 34pts(best back 9); 4- J Wells-Redditch 34pts.
'Best Mutton Gross': D. Grey-Darlington 37-9=28.
Aged 70-74 group 1-J Lake-Redditch 33pts(bb9); 2-D Dyke-Redditch 33pts.
Aged 75 and over group: 1-A Watkins-Droitwich 34pts(bb9); 2-R Worrall-Ladbroke Park 34pts.
