STUDLEY hotshot Stevan Walton is joint top of the qualifiers for next year's clay pigeon World Championships.

The 16-year-old has set his sights on a place in the championships and is on target despite breaking his gun on the first qualifier at the Southern Counties Shooting Ground at the weekend.

The Bromsgrove College student had to find another gun after his broke on his 97th clay of 100 on Saturday and then had to use the reserve gun on Sunday but still ended up with a joint top score of 197 out of 200.

Walton was crowned European Junior clay pigeon champion after leading his country to glory in France.

Sixteen-year-old Stevan Walton won two gold medals at the European Championships at Avignon after leading England to glory in the under 18s section.

To qualify he has to come through four qualifying shoots and heads for the East Yorkshire shooting ground, near Beverley, on September 29 in the second of his qualifiers.
