FOLK in Bewdley have been warned to stay on their guard after three homes were visited by bogus callers.

The first incident happened in Shaw Hedge Road at 2pm last Wednesday when a man called at the door of a woman in her late 80s and offered her a window-cleaning contract for 12 months, paid in advance.

She declined the offer and her careworker reported the matter to Kidderminster Police who connected it to a similar deception at 4.45pm the same day.

In the later call a man claimed to be a relative of the window cleaner and asked for £25 to cover 12 months in advance.

The Cleobury Road resident paid the man but discovered the deception when she called the window cleaner who knew nothing about the visitor.

The man was described as white, with short brown hair and aged between 20 and 30.

He was wearing a white shirt and was clean and tidy in appearance.

An elderly woman was then visited the following day at 10.30am by a woman claiming to represent the estate agent selling her home.

She claimed she needed to check through the house but was refused entry and left. The offender was described as young and of scruffy appearance.

She had untidy, loose mousy coloured hair and was wearing a white blouse, yellow anorak and dark trousers.

Police spokeswoman Caroline Schubert said: "We are warning people to be wary when strangers call at your door.

"Do not let anybody into your home or hand over any money until you have checked they are who they say they are."

Anyone with information about the bogus callers should call police on 01562 820888.
