PUPILS at Bewdley High School will be taking over the airwaves in an exciting new project being run as part of the town's annual festival.

Up to 200 youngsters will broadcast 24 hours a day on Youthcomm Radio. The studio will will be in a double-decker bus in the school grounds on October 5 for the duration of the eight-day festival. Bewdley High School pupils Daniel Barrett, Nina Geithner, Sarah Brunger and Emma Passey prepare to hit the airwaves.

Sixteen programme leaders have received training at Youthcomm's Worcester headquarters. They will lead teams of five or six in broadcasting news, interviews and entertainment.

Other pupils will market and publicise the project, which will also see broadcasts made across the internet.

It will be the first time Youthcomm, run by Worcestershire Youth Service will be involved in Bewdley Festival.

The 14th festival is already a roaring success weeks ahead of the opening day with eight events already sold out.

Pupils will broadcast reports and interviews from the festival. Festival director Jenny Paddock said: "This experience could put the students on a new career path. It is a wonderful opportunity for the high school and I would urge everyone to tune in."

The wavelength will be not made public until a few days before the festival, due to licensing regulations.
