A MOTHER stricken with multiple sclerosis 15 years ago has raised more than £750 after taking part in a week-long voyage with a crew of other MS sufferers.

Julie Mason, 41, of Stourport, was among three members of a crew who sailed the Multiple Challenge around the country, starting on June 21 guided by a skipper and mate. Julie Mason who joined the Multiple Challenge crew to help raise funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Cash raised will go towards research into the condition which attacks the central nervous system and supporting less viable branches of the MS Society.

Mrs Mason said: "It really was a challenge. It was hard work and we rose to the occasion. It was just tremendously fulfiling."

She thanked members of the public who had supported her appeal in the Shuttle/Times & News as well as Lloyds Garage and York Street Medical Centre, Stourport.

She gave a public talk on the benefits of sailing for people with MS at the Brinton Arms, Bewdley Road, Stourport, on Monday.

Mrs Mason added she was hoping to stage a sponsored fund-raising abseil in aid of the York Street Medical Centre and was waiting to hear if the army would help her.

She said the event was by way of a thank you to Dr Peter Batty and Dr Jim Goodman of the medical centre who had given her so much help.
