A BLIND pensioner who fell into a glass cupboard developed an infection and died after undergoing two operations.

Seventy-nine-year-old Mary Hodgkins cut her head and fractured her thigh-bone when she fell at her Stourport home on Sunday, July 8.

She underwent operations at Worcester Royal Infirmary on Wednesday, July 18 and again on Wednesday, August 15 but due to a chest infection, developed septicemia, a serious blood infection and died in hospital.

Coroner's officer Robert Taylor, giving evidence at an inquest in Worcester, said the widow, who lived in Martley Road, was alone in her home when she fell.

It had been confirmed that Mrs Hodgkins died of septicemia due to a chest infection after treatment for a fractured neck of the femur.

Worcestershire deputy coroner Tim Sherwood said that Mrs Hodgkins' family was satisfied there were no suspicious circumstances and he recorded a verdict of accidental death.
