A NEW parent and toddler group has opened its doors in Kidderminster thanks to a £23,235 grant from the Community Fund, formerly the Lottery Fund.

The Home-Start Wyre Forest project will enable parents of under-fives to meet weekly, youngsters enjoying play while the grown-ups chat with other parents, volunteers and staff over a cup of coffee.

The sessions start today at Wyre Forest Community Church, Prospect Hill.

Senior co-ordinator Ellen Dolphin said: "This is an exciting development which parents have asked for. It is an extension of befriending families in their own homes which will offer more choice and different levels of support."

She said parents would decide how the group would develop and would be involved in its organisation. She added this could include inviting speakers to talk on various subjects.

Home-Start is a voluntary organisation which offers friendship, support and practical help to families with at least one child under five.
