Torrington 1, Pershore 1

THE woodwork denied Per-shore victory in Saturday's FA Vase first qualifying round tie in Devon.

A bumpy pitch and the long grass made for a disappointing spectacle and the long journey home must have seemed even further as Town reflected on their last minute woe.

It was the final minute of extra time when James Preece struck the crossbar, while Jon Gregory was also left cursing as he squandered a golden opportunity, firing over the bar from a good position.

There were no goals in normal time but it took Paul Jones just two minutes of overtime to finally pierce the Torrington defence after good work from Preece and Paul Concannon.

However, a mistake by Colin Fulloway seven minutes later gave Karl Madge possession and he gave a stranded keeper Hipkins little chance to prevent an equaliser.

Torrington were first to threaten but it was Simon Brain who came closest to scoring when a 14th minute drive flashed across the face of goal.

Gary Smith, who later went to hospital with a dislocated shoulder, blasted over while Preece was denied by the Devon side's goalkeeper just before the interval.

Jon Vought hit the side-netting as the hosts came out with all guns blazing before Town finally grabbed the initiative only for Preece, Gregory, Concannon and Chris Jew to waste good chances to prevent extra time.
