ON Saturday, September 8, we received a letter from Worcestershire County Council Education Department informing us that our Year 9 daughter, along with Year 10, cannot start the new academic year until Thursday, September 13, at their new school as the building work is 'almost complete'.
The letter was not terribly apologetic and due to its late arrival, ensured a feeling that the Education Department is led by people who cannot accurately plan or administer and completely fail to grasp that they are dealing with minors and their parents, not a set of numbers.
There can be no confidence that the Education Department can lead Redditch schools through the doldrums to higher standards, better performance and equitable funding for all Worcestershire children.
The time has come for parents to unite, irrespective of their child's school, and demand higher standards and equality for our children.
We must follow the example of Kidderminster and campaign on a single issue set apart from party politics.
It is the future of all our children that is at stake and we must demand justice for them and all the generations of Redditch schoolchildren that will follow.
