A SCHOLARSHIP in memory of a talented Worcester student who was killed in a car accident, has been created at a city music school.

The name of Kate Davies will live on at the Elgar School of Music thanks to the love and generosity of her parents Anthony and Diane.

The 16-year-old, from Bromyard, who was a sixth former at The King's School, and a former Alice Ottley pupil, died on Thursday, September 21, last year when the car in which she was travelling as a passenger overturned at Great Witley.

The new scholarship, launched close to the anniversary of her death, will give youngsters the opportunity to train, develop and improve their singing voices.

"Our daughter gained tremendous enjoyment from drama and music, especially her main love, which was singing," said Mr Davies.

"She was such a loving girl who was full of vitality and this scholarship will be very appropriate to remember her by.

"All her friends live in the area. She was a Worcester girl at heart and hopefully this will put something positive back into the area."

The principal of the Elgar School of Music, Dr Donald Hunt, was full of praise for the generosity of both Mr and Mrs Davies in providing an opportunity to train a promising singer.

"Kate was a delightful girl and exceptional singer, her teacher thought very highly of her," he said.

"This scholarship is very apt. It's of substantial benefit for the school and I hope we can find a distinguished young singer to uphold Kate's memory."

The scholarship, initially for one year's tuition, is open to girls aged between 12 and 18, who live in the Worcester area.

Auditions will be held at the school on Saturday morning. Applications can be made to the school administrator on 01905 28613.
