ON-FORM Chaddesley Corbett made sure of staying in Worcestershire League Division One by beating Lye on Saturday and taking maximum 24 points.

Playing at home, Chaddesley got off to a superb start as Matt Boden (52) and George Baylis put on 96 for the first wicket.

The introduction of Ishtiaq and Craig Whitehouse put more pressure on the Chaddesley batsmen and both openers fell to the former's off-spin.

Mark Edward made 64, sharing in stands of 56 with Kevin Truswell and 44 with Ian Chambers, before departing with the score at 222-4.

Chambers then took control and smashed his way to 59 not out as the last three overs yielded 43.

Chaddesley failed to take early Lye wickets and it was not until the introduction of Paul Connolly that wickets began to fall.

Andy Elbro bowled Ishtiaq for 22 and Connolly immediately followed with the wicket of McDonnell.

Ian Tonks and Ian Lynch added 63 to take the score to 118 before Connolly (6-92) and Dave Perry swept through Lye's middle order.

Having already been relegated, Lye refused to give up the battle even at 195-9.

And Chaddesley began to miss chances which might have proved crucial before Perry had M Mantom stumped in the penultimate over.

Nick White finished with four stumpings.

Chaddesley 268-5, Lye 237.

Chaddesley lost their final V Sports League match of the season on Sunday by one wicket.

Stafford reaching their target in the final over, bowled by Truswell, after George Baylis earlier scored 86 and Matthew Yardley 67.

Chaddesley 257-5, Stafford 258-9.
