FARMERS and rural business owners across the two counties who are looking for a way out of the difficult commercial climate may be interested in retraining.

For those seeking alternative income sources and new skills, the launch of the new Centre for Professional and Management Development, at Hartpury College, near Gloucester, could prove timely.

The new initiative provides a facility for the provision of business training, management development and consultancy.

"The centre will offer training and consultancy services to a wide range of industries in the UK and overseas," said a spokeswoman.

"It has particular strengths relevant to the promotion of added-value in the food, agribusiness and farming sectors but will be active in a range of related industries helping to improve business performance and extend the individual owner or manager's professional and personal development."

In addition, the centre offers support to smaller businesses and entrepreneurs, and seeks to extend the college's links with the local rural-business community.

"On-site facilities will include access to a custom built training suite, computing and IT-based communications and en-suite bedroom accommodation, in a beautiful parkland setting," said the spokeswoman.
