DEAR EDITOR - So Droitwich Spa councillors decided to ignore the views of the people of Droitwich (again). I only hope that the electorate remember this when the next elections come around.

Regarding the views by Peter Crowther last week, he said that the recent poll was a hollow victory. Then all I can say is so was the General Election, as that only attracted a record low turnout. And Councillor Pam Davey is quoted on August 15 as saying: "The low turnout reflected the attitude of Droitwich people towards a totally unnecessary poll".

Well all I can add to that is how else do we get you councillors to listen to us? Even when our voice is heard it falls on deaf ears!

The traders in the High Street claim that building a new supermarket would kill the town centre trade. Why? It's been virtually dead for years, probably because councillors prefer more housing and less amenities is the way to go.

Droitwich has a monopoly on shoppers who are unable to travel to shopping centres like Blackpole, where the shopping is varied and with a wider choice......and where the car parking is free!

Surely as a democratic society we should listen to the voice of the people, and even with a low turnout the percentage of people in favour of a supermarket and filling station far outweighed that of those in favour of even more housing!

Droitwich is fast becoming a commuter town with people from 'outside' with well paid jobs, able to afford the expensive housing that is being thrown up on our greenbelt land, with very little thought given to those who are in need of social housing.

Yes, a percentage of those houses being built have to be allocated for social needs, but it is a very small percentage and not enough!

I don't really blame the town council, after all they are only continuing a Tory tradition of ignoring the wishes of the people.....as they obviously know better.

And yes, I did vote in the poll for a supermarket, as I believe that more competition would be a healthy thing for the people of Droitwich, giving them a more varied choice of where to shop and with cheaper goods!

And yes! I too will vote in the next town elections, but which way?...........No argument!
