DROITWICH struggled against a strong and well organised Silhillians side in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Sils scored a try in the opening minutes but after that Droitwich came back well and Matt Blackmore scored two penalties.

The windy conditions made handling difficult, but both sides were committed to 15-man rugby. The second period saw Sils gradually take control.

Droitwich had their moments but sustained pressure was not something the home pack could muster.

Sils scored two late tries that gave the scoreline a one-sided look, but on the whole they deserved the handsome win.

Droitwich's main problem was their inability to secure quality possession for their backs, although it must be said that the home pack conceded a massive weight advantage.

However, Spa are going to have to learn to play to their strengths if they are going to have a successful Midlands Four West (South) campaign.

For Droitwich, back row men Nick Godfrey, Jon Andrews and Gareth Knight worked tirelessly and winger Jamie Faulk-ener made some good runs.
