BRASS bands from across England and Wales will be descending on Droitwich Spa later this month for a prestigious competition.

The Wychavon Festival of Brass Entertainment Contest returns to the town on Sunday September 30 for the first time in four years.

The extravaganza of brass bands, which according to festival secretary Clive Allen is the leading one day contest in England and Wales, will be playing in three halls at Droitwich Spa High School, in Briar Mill.

Mr Allen told the Advertiser/Messenger: "Brass bands from the four corners of England and Wales will be making the trip to Droitwich to play in 52 concerts during the day.

"The range of music is fantastic from the top championships bands to more local bands.

"We even have a girl's band this year - The Trinity Girls Band from Wigan."

The fun runs from 9.45am to 10pm.

Tickets priced at £4 or £5 on the day are available by calling Mr Allen on 01386 870003.
