A BROMSGROVE teenager 18th birthday celebrations were cut short when banners were removed from her school grounds.

Jo-Hannah Lane, aged 18, arrived at South Bromsgrove High School, in Charford Road, to find the decorations her mother arranged had been taken down.

Headteacher Phil McTague removed the banners before school began last Wednesday -- the first day of term.

Her mother, Karen Lane, told the Advertiser/Messenger she was "really annoyed" her plans to commemorate her daughter's "special day" were spoiled.

She had worked on the handmade banners with her disabled daughter, Karis.

At 11.45pm on September 3 she decorated the cul-de-sac in which they live and Jo-Hannah's school.

Mr McTague said: "No-one asked if they could display the banners.

"We are not looking to suppress people's celebrations.

"If Mrs Lane had asked me we could have come up with an internal arrangement to accommodate her wishes.

"This interfered with the day-to-day running of the school."

However, One Stop shop, in Worcester Road, came to the rescue when deputy manager Rob Monaghan agreed to display Jo-Hannah's banners.

Mrs Lane said despite the day's events Jo-Hannah celebrated at home.
