Droitwich Sports FC (0) 2

Halfords FC (0) 1

Midland Combination

Division Three

THIS was Sports toughest test so far this season and they came through it with flying colours.

With Halfords sitting second in the league and still unbeaten, Sports knew this would be no pushover.

Both sides started brightly, if a little scrappy in places. Sports were giving debuts to experienced keeper Melvin Watson and midfielder Steve Evans, along with young and promising centre half Danny Williams.

The first 45 minutes ended goalless with the both sides struggling to find their rhythm. The second half began with more purpose and Droitwich had the lion's share of the ball.

Sports finally broke down the Halfords defence on 62 minutes after Steve Evans weaved his magic on the edge of the box to set up Williams, who side-footed home from eight yards.

It looked as if one goal would be enough, but after some sloppy defending, Halfords equalised with a simple header that slipped out of Watson's hands.

The game was heading for a draw, but right at the death a 25-yard daisy cutter from Martin Smith put Droitwich ahead.

This win puts Droitwich third in the table with four wins and a draw from five games.
