DEAR EDITOR - Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I often walk along the pathway that connects Whitford Close and Fox Walks Avenue, and I can hardly contain the delight I feel at the beauty of this idyllic spot.

Those drinks cans and food containers nestling among the knee-high nettles.

The piles of rubble, broken bricks and sawn-off tree branches on either side of the pathway.

The weeds growing profusely on either side of the path and pushing their dainty noses through the pathway itself.

Many times my neighbours and I have contacted the council asking for this pathway to be cleared.

I can only assume all requests have been consigned to the waste-basket.

Should we, I ask myself, ask once again? Then I think "No" - to destroy such beauty would be nothing short of sacrilege.

Perhaps a member of the council would like to share a stroll along this pathway with me.

Better still cycle or walk through, I doubt you'll find room to park a car. You can lean your cycle against my garden wall. No parking fee!

Perhaps though, when our friends from Gronau pay another visit and having been duly wined and dined at the tax payers' expense, members of the council would like to give them a chance to come and view this panorama of exquisite beauty.

Please do not tell me "We cannot afford the cost. The council tax will not run to it"

My reply to that is - "Tell it to the Marines."
