DROITWICH Spa's First XI suffered a disappointing defeat in their penultimate match at home to Old Luctonians in Worcestershire County League Division One on Saturday.
Chasing 225, Spa suffered a disastrous collapse having been well placed at 140-3.
The final seven wickets fell for 40 runs in ten overs, leaving Droitwich in fourth place.
Earlier, Spa elected to field on a bouncy but helpful track for the bowlers. Karl Goddard again displayed commendable accuracy and has certainly come back a better bowler after a spell in the Second XI.
However, the other bowlers and Droitwich's fielding was a little mixed and a total of 225 was certainly within reach.
Geoff Ford gave Spa a tasty start before being dismissed controversially for a good 30. Nigel Haddock (28) and Wesley Euley then put Droitwich in a commanding position. But Spa's first disappointing batting display for several months undid their good work. Euley again top scored with 71.
Spa's season finishes on Saturday with a derby at home to Pershore, 12.30pm start.
