IN Jim Waugh's letter (Advertiser, September 4) he accuses me of spin regarding Labour Party national policy on local government operating systems.
He mentions the closure of Bridley Moor, which was in no way connected to Redditch Council or within any power of a mayor's jurisdiction or remit.
He mentions democracy and a five per cent vote in a council-run referendum.
Democracy measures those who do vote, not those who do not.
The vote was on the very proposals contained within the Government legislation on local democracy.
Democracy is about real choice. Labour, unlike our opposition, look to modernise and update political systems in line with the progress made by humanity.
How can we benefit future generations by burying our heads in the sand now and carrying on with old failed systems.
Do we have a problem with a decline in democratic involvement or not, Mr Waugh?
Mr Waugh should learn about who deals with what within the various and complex layers of the old political set-ups before he makes comments about someone who does.
