SURELY the main point has been missed in the article ''One in the eye'' (Advertiser, August 22).
This proposed move by the NHS Trust shows its complete disregard for laser treatment.
The reason the equipment was bought by public subscription was the refusal of the trust to provide equipment to replace the antiquated equipment at Bromsgrove, which had been bought 10 years previously with money left in a will.
The Audit Commission issued a report in April 2000 on the treatment of diabetics that stated, among many other criticisms, that eye screening and laser treatment at the right time could reduce blindness by 50 per cent.
The incidence of diabetes is becoming of epidemic proportions - 1.4 million and still rising.
Instead of moving equipment around, the trust should be buying more lasers for Kidderminster and Bromsgrove and leaving the Alexandra's where it is.
