A TERRIFIED schoolgirl has been given a reprieve before the boy she says sexually assaulted her walks back into class.

Education chiefs assured her mum the boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, would be excluded from the special school until the end of this week.

But after that, they have told her to phone and check with them.

"I think it's absolutely disgusting," said the mum, who lives in Worcester.

"My daughter's terrified he's going to walk back into school any minute.

"She's been very iffy about going back - and now she's got this hanging over her head.

"And what's more, the LEA have told me I've got to ring them. They haven't ever rung me about it."

She said social services had been in contact with the boy, who was now receiving counselling.

"I can't believe it," the mum fumed.

"He should have been given a police caution.

"My daughter's having counselling. She still can't sleep properly."

The 11-year-old, who has the mental age of a much younger girl, was advised to take the morning after pill after the alleged attack in early July.

Pupils were playing in a maze on a school trip when a teacher discovered the girl with her trousers down. The boy was standing near her.

The mum claimed the school later told her the pair were just "experimenting" - despite staff advising her "strongly" to take her to the doctor.

"At the end of the day, that child should have known right from wrong," she said.

"My daughter's been through hell and back and he just hasn't been punished enough."

A spokesman for Worcestershire County Council said it was conscious of the sensitivity of the situation.

"We will of course avoid putting a child in a position which was felt to be threatening or frightening," he said.

"However, in the interests of fairness, the county council must investigate the allegations made.

"The young man in question will not return to school until we have explored all the options available to resolve the delicate issue."
