A MILITARY band which includes work by the likes of Bach - and Boyzone - in its repertoire is joining forces with a Kidderminster group for An Evening Of Music For All.

The New Dimensional Experience Choir have invited The King's Division Waterloo Band to Kidderminster for the event next month at the town hall.

It is one of the British Army's 29 regular bands in the Corps of Army Music, and was formed in September 1994 as a successor to the Regimental Bands of The King's Division.

Members will be supported in their Kidderminster performance by The Massed Chorus, under the baton of the choir's musical director John Quelch.

The band, based in Catterick, North Yorkshire, is directed by Captain Wayne Hopla, who took up his position two years ago having served as Bandmaster of The Grenadier Guards and School Bandmaster at Kneller Hall.

Captain Hopla has also been Bandmaster of The Royal Irish Rangers which became The Band of The Royal Irish Regiment in 1992, and has toured throughout Britain, Northern Ireland and Cyprus.

The King's Division Waterloo Band has 35 members from which it provides a concert band, display and marching band, dance band, and fanfare team for "military, ceremonial and public events".

A spokesman said: "Music to support the military has connotations reaching well into humankind's distant past supporting fighting forces and communications across battlefields.

"Today's military band, while able to trace its origins back to such roots, has a far more versatile and entertaining use.

"In concerts the band provides music and entertainment to suit all needs with a repertoire from Bach, Beethoven and Brahms to The Beatles and Boyzone."

The band will be looking to demonstrate this diversity with next month's appearance in Kidderminster being billed as offering "music for all".

The concert takes place on Thursday, September 20 at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £9.50 and £8.50 and available by calling 01562 748095.
