A COMEDY by Alan Ayckbourn begins a three-night run this week as the curtain comes up on The Rose Theatre's new autumn and winter season.

Kidderminster Operatic and Dramatic Society are presenting A Chorus Of Disapproval at the town venue starting on Wednesday. Claire Grand, Daniel Grand and Hannah McCormack prepare for a Chorus Of Disapproval.

It is the first of 10 productions lined up at the Chester Road North theatre to keep audiences entertained until January next year, with performances by resident group The Nonentities, Yvonne Baker Associates and Hull Truck Theatre Company.

The action takes place between the first rehearsal and first performance of an amateur production of Gay's The Beggar's Opera at a provincial theatre.

It follows a lonely widower who joins his local amateur light operatic society and advances from a bit-part role to taking the lead.

KODS spokeswoman Jean Wright said: "Ayckbourn keeps us laughing in the happy recognition of how the British are painfully embarrassed in the face of emotion."
