THE CHURCHYARD: Only a handful of people turned up for the monthly tidying of the church grounds last Saturday but Bob Young, newly in charge, seemed undeterred. It was interesting to talk to Bob and find out why he is now involved with a village and a church which are not his home territory but to which he clearly feels a strong commitment. Having heard from a member of the church congregation that following the departure of Alan Johnston there was nobody to take on the regular maintenance of both churchyards, Bob offered his services. He lives in Evesham and feels he has sufficient time to spare to continue Alan's good work and introduce some measures of his own with the object of creating a churchyard which is not only neat and tidy but a pleasure to be in. He is looking to build up relationships with other interested bodies and establish a regular pattern of maintenance and new projects. He will need help and anyone who is interested can meet Bob at the next tidy-up session, the date of which will be announced shortly. Inside the church, some of the pews at the back have been removed so a thorough examination of the floor can take place. There are serious problems including rotting floor timbers and joists which will need repair work, and a long-term solution is now being sought. One suggestion, which is not universally popular is to have all the pews at the rear removed, the floor sealed and carpeted and the pews replaced by suitable chairs.
