IT may be raining men for former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell but it certainly isn't the case for Bromsgrove's Primrose Hospice Choir.

The group, which celebrated its first birthday this year, has grown from just six members to 24 but is still short of men, particularly tenors.

The choir has a full programme of concerts and is fully booked until 2002.

All proceeds from its concerts go to the Finstall-based Primrose Hospice and Cancer Help Centre which supports cancer sufferers, their family and friends.

In its first 12 months the choir raised £4,000.

But unless some musical men step forward and join the choir, which is performing at a Last Night of the Proms event later in the year, it may have to change its programme to suit its talents which could mean dropping its rousing rendition of Land of Hope and Glory.

Choir member Maureen Watts said: "They don't have to be Pavarotti as long as they can carry a tune -- enthusiasm goes a long way."

The group rehearses on Wednesdays at 8pm at the hospice in St Godwald's Road.

Maureen added: "I think people hold back because they feel they cannot sing or are not good enough but there are quite a few of us who are really experienced and people find they pick things up and soon get into the swing of it."
