VARIETY will be the spice of upcoming presentations during the autumn visitors' season at the RSC.

From the fun-style musicals of Return to the Forbidden Planet and Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music, to the drama of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, there is likely to be something to appeal to most tastes.

Another highlight will be two concerts by Van Morrison.

Return to the Forbidden Planet runs at the Swan from October 23-27, while the Royal Shakespeare Theatre stages Sing-A-Long-A Sound of Music on October 27. They will be followed by Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat from October 29 to November 3.

Meanwhile, at The Other Place, The Merchant of Venice will be performed in Japanese by the Theatre Du Sygne, Haiyuza Company and Bulandra Theatre, as part of the Japan 2001 Festival.

This runs from October 25-27.

Death of a Salesman, performed by the Compass Theatre Company, is on at The Swan from October 30-November 1.

Stratford Gilbert and Sullivan Society perform Trial by Jury with HMS Pinafore at The Swan from November 6-10.

Van Morrison will be in concert at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre on November 9 and 10. On the same dates, Dear Liar, which traces the romance between George Bernard Shaw and actress Mrs Patrick Campbell, is on at The Other Place.
