TWO men had to be rescued from the River Severn after a dog owner who jumped in to save his pet got into difficulty and sparked a rescue attempt which also ran into trouble.
Firefighters from Kidderminster were called out to the scene, around half a mile from Lax Lane car park, Bewdley, after fishermen heard cries for help.
A police spokesman said the owner of a dog had waded into the river after his pet went in and got stuck.
He was unable to get out and a passer-by also waded in to help but found himself stuck too, he added.
The spokesman said no-one was injured in the incident which happened on Sunday shortly before 8pm.
Firefighters, who were joined by ambulance crews and police officers, pulled the men out of the water.
A lifeboat, transported by road from Worcester, was not needed.
