WORCESTER'S Dean Hemming and Rob Stanley saw their dream of winning the Yoplait All-England Bowls pairs title crash in the semi-finals at Worthing last night.

There was an early shock for the Worcester clubmates as the opposition, Ray Ottley and Mark Overington charged 8-1 ahead over the first four ends.

Hemming and Stanley hit back with a double and single, but they were soon in more trouble as Ottley and Overington from Cranleigh Royal British Legion piled up seven shots over three successive ends to stretch their advantage to 15-4.

Hemming and Stanley rallied with doubles at two of the next three ends, but they still trailed 15-8 and their rivals added seven shots in four ends to lead 22-8.

A double and single at two of the next three ends by Hemming and Stanley reduced the gap but they conceded defeat at the next with the Surrey pair going through 26-11.

The title went to Maurice Miller and Tony Merrell from March Conservatives who won 18-17.
