I WOULD like to call for a ban on fire engines with blue lights flashing, red sports cars, "For Sale" signs in gardens, flowers in fields and pretty girls walking down the pavement.

Am I going mad? No, not according to Mrs Pattie Silk (Letters, August 23).

She wants to ban people from laying a flower or two for a loved one lost in a road accident.

I think my suggestions sound quite sensible because if you can't drive past a few flowers on the side of the road then you have a real problem and shouldn't be behind the wheel in the first place.

As far as birthday messages on the highway are concerned, I say to Mrs Silk - lighten up a bit, it's a bit of a laugh.
