IT was with great interest that I read ex-district councillor Mike Kelly's letter in the Shuttle regarding the development of Oldington sports ground.

I agree wholeheartedly with the concerns expressed at the imminent coalescence of the towns due to planning decisions.

However, Mr Kelly forgot to mention that he, as a district councillor some 10 years ago, voted alongside 40 other councillors in favour of granting Brintons planning permission for industrial use of their sports field.

There were only two votes recorded against that proposition, by the late Councillor Patrick Duffy, and myself.

What bothers me is that there was a caveat that industrial use on the land was solely for the Brinton family and their successors for the manufacture of Brintons products.

This restriction has somehow been waived, as I understand that the present proposals are for small industrial units unconnected with the carpet industry.

It would seem Brintons have once again prevailed upon the district planners.
