This is an open letter to the Highways Agency. As a person who works in civil engineering I read with great interest the article in last week's Evesham Journal regarding the problem with lorries overturning on the roundabout on the A46 at the end of Cheltenham Road.

As a local resident I and many other residents are aware that this is a dangerous roundabout on a fast trunk road which brings into serious question a planning proposal in an area adjacent to this roundabout.

Wychavon District Council planning committee have recently granted delegated change of use planning approval to Evesham United Football Club for a new club site adjacent to this very roundabout.

One condition, among many other planning 106 restrictions placed upon the club, was that permission for access would have to be obtained from the Highways Agency and of which we are now advised by Mr Jack Hegarty, head of planning at Wychavon District Council, that the Highways Agency may be considering a proposal for a fourth spur on this roundabout.

We would remind all parties involved in granting this planning permission that they also have a Duty of Care to the general public.

A fourth spur on this roundabout will inevitably lead to a serious accident sooner rather than later with fast traffic approaching from the Cheltenham side and other traffic slowing or stopping to gain access to the proposed site.

It is hoped that common sense will prevail and that the Highways Agency will refuse any access that will add to the very serious problems on this already very busy roundabout.
