A NIGHTCLUB doorman who was felled by a kick to the groin and needed hospital treatment has been awarded £100 compensation by Kidderminster magistrates.

Gavyne Wooldridge, 20, of Habberley Lane, Kidderminster, was also fined £200 with £150 costs. He admitted assaulting Marshall Dutton outside Time nightclub, BlackweLl Street, Kidderminster, in February.

He was angry when he believed Mr Dutton had assaulted his girlfriend, said John Alban-Davies, prosecuting. He ran across and kicked the doorman.

Wooldridge was a man of good character, said his solicitor Gary Harper.

He saw Dutton's hands on the woman's shoulder, thought she was being assaulted and ran to protect her.

Wooldridge's cousin Jason Stratford, 22, of Minster Road, Stourport, admitted damaging a door after he was ejected from the club. He was fined £200 with £150 costs.

Stratford had been upset about being put out of the club after the bouncers mistakenly believed he was responsible for initiating violence inside, Mr Harper said.

He had been handled roughly in the course of his clash with the security men and he went back and kicked the front door when it was closed against him.
