SUPER Stourport are assured of promotion to Worcestershire League Division Two after a convincing 56-run victory at Alvechurch.

Batting first, the visitors were in early trouble at 16-4 before Ben Champkin (60), Phil Williams (51) and captain Nigel Turner rescued the innings and posted a total of 195-9.

Alvechurch never seriously threatened victory as the Stourport pace attack, led by Gary Mills (4-65), reduced the home team to 139.

The seconds slipped to a four-wicket defeat to Alvechurch at Walshes Meadow.

They must now win at Alveley in their final match of the season to secure the second team title.

Stourport batted first and were out for 141, Bryan Colley with 46 providing the main resistance.

The visitors had to work hard for victory as the bowlers, especially John Downes (3-13), fought back.

But the Stourport total was inadequate on an excellent wicket and Alvechurch posted 142-6.
